“Lois H. Gurgel, 75 of Mankato died Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at St. Peter Community Hospital.

“Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Mankato Mortuary with burial in Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery.

“Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. today and hone hour prior to the service at the mortuary.

“She is survived by husband, Pastor Roland A. Gurgel, daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Dennis Wendland of Cottonweed, Ariz., Kathleen and Omar Olmanson of Mankato, Ruth Ann and Mark Bernthal of Saginaw, Mich., Deborah and John Ude of Fridley, Bethany and Perry Dauer of Nicollet; sons and daughters-in-law, Paul and Barbara Gurgel of Eau Claire, Wis., John and Cathy Gurgel of Seaside, Ore., Daniel Gurgel of Tampa, Fla., Pastor Roland H. Gurgel of New Ulm; 45 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Doris Bauer of Kenosha, Wis.

“She was preceded in death by a granddaughter.

“She was born Sept. 23, 1923 in Milwaukee, Wis., to Henry and Helen (Thurow) Bauer. She graduated from Milwaukee High School. She married Roland A. Gurgel on Oct 28, 1945 in Milwaukee. She was a homemaker and was employed as a department store clerk for 13 years. She live in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Arizona, and Wyoming before retiring to Mankato. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Eagle Lake.”

Obituary: Roland A. Gurgel

Roland Adolph Gurgel was born October 10, 1920 in Wonewoc, Wisconsin to Herman and Flora (Pohl) Gurgel. He graduated from high school, college and attended seminary school. He was united in marriage to Lois Helen Bauer on October 28, 1945 in Milwaukee. Roland served as Pastor from 1945-1959 in La Crosse and Rib Lake, WI, New Ulm and Belle Plaine, MN. Rev Gurgel and his family moved to Arizona and in 1962 they moved to Wyoming, where he served as pastor in Cheyenne. From 1964-86, Roland was a professor for the high school, college and the seminary at Immanuel Lutheran College in Eau Claire, WI.

Roland retired in 1986 and moved to Mankato. He assisted in several U.S. locations as a vacancy pastor He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Eagle Lake, MN.

Survivors include five daughters and their husbands, Lois and Dennis Wendland of Cottonwood, AZ; Kathleen and Omar Olmanson of Mankato, MN; Ruth Ann and Mark Bernthal of Middleton, WI; Deborah and John Ude of Eau Claire, WI; Bethany and Perry Dauer of Mankato, MN; four sons, Paul Gurgel and wife, Barbara of Eau Claire, WI; John Gurgel and wife, Cathie of Vancouver, WA; Daniel Gurgel o Tampa, FL; Pastor Roland H. Gurgel of Weslaco, TX; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Dorks Picha of Onaslask, WI; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a granddaughter, three brothers, and two sisters.

The Rev. Roland A. Gurgel was taken to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, Feb. 6, 2014. Praise be to God!

The Rev. Roland A. Gurgel, age 93, of Eau Claire, WI and formerly of Mankato, died Thursday, February 6, 2014, at Rutledge Assisted Living in Chippewa Falls, WI.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 15, 2014, at Northview-North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Drive, North Mankato. Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Northview. Burial will be in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery, Mankato. Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran College.

Gurgel of Spring, TX; 45 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; sister, Doris Picha of Onalaska, WI; nieces and nephews. Also survived by a sister-in-law, Doris Bauer of Kenosha, WI.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois on March 2, 1999; a granddaughter, Heleen; two grandsons, Samuel and Micah; three brothers and two sisters.
